Leadership is overrated…….and in the MLM industry it is dramatically overrated.

How can I say that?

Between the self appointed experts that represent – ahem – no company so they can stay – ahem – impartial……and the compulsion towards self promotion most leaders feel they must do……..we’ve lost the point of leadership…..

It is about service, not trumpet blowing.

Part of that service is helping people who join our teams…….that means making sure what we recommend to help them works…..it also means we proved it works…….

Last week I posted a blog about the ‘pimping’ …….a few folks took issue with it.

When questioned…..about the veracity of what they were recommending…..the communication, of course ended.

So to clear all that up…..and give you the #1 Leadership trait that must be followed…….I shot this 90-second-ish video….

#1 LEADERSHIP TIP

I promise, if you follow this tip, exactly, and never break the rule…..executing it the 4 ways I share……you’ll be a great leader.

I just found out something really interesting about people in Network Marketing / MLM.  Most people do not know what their job description is; in fact the number is staggering, it’s well over 90%.

It should come as no surprise when I tell you that I was in that large group, along with most people in the industry.  The interesting thing is that the majority of people spend years trying to make it work, and they never learned what our job really is.

If you’re like me, you see I thought our job was to sponsor a bunch of people and your we all set for life, or like a few of my friends that thought their job was “to share with others”, basically telling others what we have and what we do.

Let’s list a few more,

*       Build relationships
*       Duplicate
*       Become good sales people, to sell
*       Contact potential customers or distributors for our company’s product
*       Give presentations to people you’ve set appointments with
*       Enroll at least new prospect as a customer or distributor every week
*       Learn all about the company
*       Learn the marketing or compensation plan
*       Become well versed on the product
*       Driving Traffic To Your Site
*       Connect with as many people as possible on Facebook
*       Buy leads
*       Buy better leads
*       Talk to more people
*       Find the right people………

Wrong, wrong, wrong……..

Look at the list, if you’re like most people you’ve probably tried at least 4-5 of them, if not all of them, so is it a coincidence why so many people never get anywhere in this business?

There are just 3 basic things you want to do in order to start working towards success;

1.  Strike interest and sort;
Basically find out if they are interested and have a reason why they want what we have to offer, and that they are not going to waste our time. One of the  biggest things most networkers do, and that kills their dreams,  is they spend to much time with the wrong people.  They spend a ton of time trying to convince them our deal is the best thing for them.

2.   Have them review information and book the follow up
It could be a presentation you give them, a meeting presentation, an online webcast, recorded video presentation, a CD, a DVD, or a brochure or magazine.
It is also essential that the follow up is booked at that time, and you want it to be specific; a date and time on that date, not just Wednesday night, or afternoon on Friday, for example it should be “Friday the 9^th at 2:30PM”.  If they won’t commit then you probably should have them give back whatever information you might have given them if you are meeting face to face.

3.  Follow up
Now that they have expressed an interest, we gave them information to review, and they have reviewed the information, it’s time to go to work and do our Network Marketing J-O-B……… Collect their decision.
They are only a Prospect once they have passed the criteria, expressed interest, reviewed the information, and have “shown up” for us to collect their decision.

Although a lot people think the aforementioned items are what they need to do, nobody gets paid because they gave a good presentation, were nice to someone, or were able to answer all the questions about the magic potion or lotion.

When somebody joins our business we earn money, we get paid when they say “yes”.  So you see everybody’s job is to Collect Decisions, because when they say “yes, I’m ready to get started”, we have done our job and get compensated for a job well done.

THE DIRTY SECRET
(This is the 3rd of a 3 part series – Do you want a System or is Success good enough?)

Now for the dirty secret, the only one making real money on the proven duplicable system was the so called guru.  From all those $20 dollar a month subscriptions, all the books and tapes that were purchased, all the people that they brought in, and so on….. We never got paid for the effort, not only that,neither did any of those people.

The money went to the guru. We know you might be thinking “the guru invented the system” so they should be entitled to be making money on it.

You know what? We agree.

Let us ask you a question, how long would you work to promote a company, a product, a service, if for everyone that you got to make a purchase you didn’t make a dime?

How long would you work a job if you didn’t get paid?

Thought so.

The Guru Wizard’s are keeping the wealth to themselves, it is a primary source of income for them. That’s not what they tell you, they say they are making ALL their money from the “company”, and they’ve never made a dime from their system. They are probably technically correct, maybe their business entity, their spouse or children are making the money, but not “them”… what a joke.

In fact in most cases the guru makes as much or more than they do from their primary MLM business. When you look across the entire MLM / Network Marketing industry the majority of the “Guru Systems” are designed for the Guru to build their business off the backs of the distributors.

Want proof? Look around at the system builders, once the magic system doesn’t work for the people in the organization they look for something new on the internet to build the business. This creates hemorrhaging in the group and the teams crumble.

Now you can see one big reason why these systems don’t last, there is no sharing of the wealth……. pure, plan, and simple….. It’s Greed!

Now you are probably wondering why we have shared this dirty secret, you see the truth will always be the truth, these are facts, not an opinion, and we don’t want you wasting your time and money.

TIME TIME TIME

How Much of Your Time is Really That Productive?

One thing the magic system and its training never taught me was about the time thing.  You know what we mean, how much do I need, how to best manage or schedule it, when is the best time to do it, what should I be doing once it was scheduled.

Then I found out………………

If you can’t build a large business in about 2 hours per day you are doing it wrong.

What?

You mean all those hours on Facebook and Twitter were not needed?  All the Traffic Exchanges and clicking for credits were not really necessary?

Holy Crap!

Don’t agree?  Go find the top earners from several companies and then look them up on Facebook, and then check and see how many of them are playing pen-pal with all of their “friends” .  Find out how many of them are messaging others with the objective of getting them to  look at their business opportunity.  Zippo!  Nada!

The magic guru promises to train and mentor people, they set up the training calls 3,4,5 nights a week, so that people have a place to come and be part of “something”.  So what happens is that people spend all these hours each week not building their business, and they are not learning the real skills they need to be successful.

They get told, go find people on the web, drive them to your site, get more people to talk to, get them in the system and let the system do the work…. quack quack quack.

Now to be fair, they are learning some skills, however, the skills they learn are how to promote the “magic system” and how to get people to do the same thing.   But lets be honest, it does nothing to build your business.

After a period of time, they are given the privilege, that is once they are “qualified” to join the guru in the special club, aka their MLM Company.  Over night they are magically anointed as a  “Leader” without ever being shown how to lead.  B as in “B”, and S as in “S”………..everybody knows leadership is not assumed or given, true leadership is earned.

The gurus understand that people want to be a part of something bigger than themselves, so they tell them they will be part of a team, a community of “like minded” people working together.  People that have never had any success because they never learned any skills are willing to try anything, and they use that to their advantage.   That’s how people get sucked in.

More money out the door…… But the Wizard Guru is happy, and “Excited” you are in!!

We have the magic system from the guru, we are in the guru’s downline, so it’s only a matter of time and we’ll be in the big money right?  All we have to do it believe in ourselves, have the eye of the tiger, never quit, never give up, and we’ll make it to the top.

There’s a dirty little secret though, nobody wants to openly admit that it’s really not working for them.  Sure, they may have received some recognition, and people think they are making the big money, but the truth is most people in these systems are to embarrassed to admit they are not.

Everything is hush hush, top secret stuff for only the inner circle of people.  Now you are probably thinking, what is this Dirty Secret that nobody publicly talks about?
